Front Euro Bumper plate bracket

Hello all,

I just scored a euro front bumper for my 85 at the JY yesterday. It did not come with a bracket for the (required) front license plate. I contemplated screwing my old bracket to it, but thought twice as there is a rather heavy gauge piece of square tubing behind the plastic.

I have searched around and can find a bracket for a euro plate but not a euro bracket for a us plate. Where are they.

Thanks, as always.

I knew having this saved on a list would come in handy some day.

Mercedes part # 1238170111. See what that drags up. (Edited, and hopefully for the last time: This is a bracket meant to fit the rear trunk filler panel of W126 and the rear hatch of W123 wagon models. It is not intended for front bumper installation, but seems as though it may hold some promise. Read the rest of this thread for further details.) I know they were still available a few years ago, because I had a local dealer check it out. They were under $20 each at that time... Probably late 2007 or early 2008. I had a lot of interest at that time in fitting euro bumpers... Might still do it, if they ever turn up for the right price.

Thanks so much, i'm going to check into it this week.

Wow, Snohomish, WA

I used to live in Bremerton, had friends in Everett, and drove around alot enjoying the scenery up there. Although, this is not my favorite time of the year in Washington state.

Will update when I find out, again thanks!

Not my favourite time of year here, either. I'm not native. I miss Miami. I'll be grumbling about the weather and arthritis for the next nine months. The non-native wife, however, loves it here.

There is no US plate bracket for Euro bumpers. There is the proper Euro license plate bracket but you'll have to figure out a way to mount the US plates on the Euro plate bracket.

^I see.

So, the bracket fits the odd shaped holes on the bumper that resemble two sideways exclamation marks?

And, I assume it is metal or plastic and I can drill holes into it for my US license plate.

Thanks for the picture.

There are two plastic guides that mount between the bracket and the bumper. Forgot the metric size screws that hold them in place. They're pretty expensive for what they are.

The US plate is mounted on a universal mounting bracket (black plastic) that I got at the local auto parts store and has provisions to mount to the Euro bracket mounting holes.

No drilling required. At least I did not want to.

Wow,

Thanks so much for those pictures. That really tells the tale.

BTW: your cars are amazing!

I just saw that yours is a W126, but the mounting is very similar.

Notice how the above photo is an updated bumper from this one below

The license plate is mounted a bit lower in the updated model (2nd generation) while the early generation is mounted between the "impact strips"...

I had no idea a W126 bumper is similar to a W123 bumper

Here's another photograph of the bits under a W123 bumper:-

Technically, the European license plate bracket is not meant for US license plates, only for European license plates. It should fit US plates with some modification, but per se there is no bracket designed for European bumpers that will accomodate US plates without modification.

The European license plate bracket is shown below, this is for the front (notice the bend in the middle):

Rear version, also for European plates, has its own P/N and is flat.

Ahh. Okay. Not necessarily the cleanest solution, then. I don't like passing bad information along, so I will edit my post above. When I had asked about it, I was told that using that bracket made putting US plates on a Euro bumper a bolt on affair. Well, so much for that.

I guess if I ever find the right Euro bumpers, I'll have to modify a US plate bracket to fit the Euro bumper somehow.

Try this.

This part was used as the bracket for rear license plates on US delivery W126s and W123 wagons and allows US plates to fit on Euro brackets. It retails new for around $10-15. A cheaper option may be to get one of these from the junkyard.

Any way you can post those pictures here, I really don't need to be a member on yet another forum;)
