Auto Transmission Pan Gasket Change Interval
Is there an auto transmission pan gasket change interval? I am getting ready to change my filter, the pan gasket is sealing fine now, and I am wondering if I should buy a new one or just reuse the old one.
I don't know how long the current gasket has been in operation. Thanks.

I think it's designed to be a one-use gasket.

I was wondering if it was, though the maintenance instructions don't mention anything about installing a new one.

The pan gasket is certainly reusable if it's not too old. I reused mine at least a dozen times while fine-tuning my valve body. But that was with a fresh gasket. With a gasket of unknown age, I would spend the $6.50.

It's not worth the hassle of having to pull the pan again if you reuse the old gasket. I Always put in a new pan gasket when I remove them. If it's a fresh seal and you're pulling the pan again I wouldn't worry about it. If it's been there a while. Shell out the few bucks for a new one.

And whatever you do, do not use any sealant! The tranny pan gasket is perfectly capable of preventing leaks without any help.

I guess you already decided, but my opinion is, for $6.50. Why not?

I guess my answer would be, if it's not needed, why do it?
