I ran mine on 100% SVO last year just to try it. I rigged a little oil container, like you do when you do a diesel purge, but filled it up with Canola oil instead and I did notice the engine running VERY silently; the characteristic diesel clac-clac-clac was gone and it sounded more like a gasser... I wonder what causes this effect.

cooler burn. less energy, and wider spray pattern, with bigger droplets due to thicker viscosity, resulting in a less complete burn. not a good thing, but on occasion, it'll work in a pinch.
the clack clack is the sound of the compression ignition. the vo burns slower, so it's not as much of a pow when the spray happens.

I, personally, would pull the tank screen filter. If there is crud in the tank and the B100 loosens it up then it WILL plug the screen to a certain degree. On a New to You car you really do not know what your dealing with in the tank so pulling the tank screen just gives you piece of mind that the tank is clean.

Benzhacker, I live in 20148. The nearest available Biodiesel is in Leesburg VA, I found it on one of the state websites. As for the hoses all the fuel hose/lines under the hood have been replaced with Viton. I have the pieces for the tank lines in the back as well as the tank screen gasket and the fuel filler neck rubber piece. Good to know it is not my imagination about the engine sounding different. Thanks to all for the feedback. Very helpful .

Biodiesel isn’t evil at all, I would burn anything but diesel. I’ve been burning WVO with a greasecar kit for some time and I warm up the car with B100. As long as you’re heating up the oil to at least 160-180 before it hits the IP, and cleaning and dewatering your oil. It’s going to work just fine. If you don’t want to burn wvo then that’s fine. But at least try to burn as much Biodiesel as you can.

Sorry, I don't. I'd bet it's close to the B2 or the (didn't have them, search online) B5 BTU numbers. This would be an average for winter blend, there are at least 4 blends commonly used, cold climates nearer to Canada will not be the exact same winter #2 blend you would get in the Texas panhandle.

The best bet is to check your local stations, find their suppliers, determine who provided the refined fuel. There is an annual switchover from one fuel type to another, some regions get only 1 blend all year, other regions may have as many as 3 or 4 coinciding with the changing seasons. There is also room for variations in each blend depending on the refiner and whatever was on hand.

I think we should avoid confusing folks about what started as a thread about biodiesel with WVO/SVO responses - two different fuels with two very different sets of characteristics. Your response above is all quite correct (one reason advancing the Injection Pump works well on a mostly WVO/SVO diet), but we should make it clear for a future reader that WVO/SVO in no way equals biodiesel. I think If we want to discuss WVO/SVO in further detail (I run two-tank systems with biodiesel in one tank and SVO in the other), we should start a new thread, or use the sticky thread for that.

true, and good point, but the OP states that his bio results in UN evil like behavior. and if you look at my first post on page 1 of the thread, I pointed out that BIO is not at all considered evil, and only WVO/SVO has evil problems.
additional questions in the thread asked specific questions about VO/SVO/WVO, and I put in my little answer to that.
I'm sure one of the mods will move this thread into the WVO sticky at the top soon...

Did you try: http://www.nearbio.com/
or
http://www.biodiesel.org/buyingbiodiesel/retailfuelingsites/biomaps/biomaps.shtm

I found quite a few stations in your area on both sites, not obvious what the actual distances are between any two points without doing a map-quest, but you can determine which will work for you better than I. I would check which refiners/suppliers are used by the station if you have the time, make sure the reputation for fuel quality is more positive then not.

By the way, I discovered a cheaper alternative to 100% Viton hose here at Peachparts' Forum and replaced my main fuel outlet hose with one made by Goodyear and by Gates that is rated SAE J30R9 which is suitable for all fuels. 30R9 has a flourocarbon/flouroelastomer inner tube (generic Viton) and Hypalon outer with aramid reinforcement. It's about 1/5 to 1/3 the price of 100% fluorocarbon/fluroelastomer hose and reported to be more durable due to a more elastic/abrasion resistant outer rubber composition. I had Hoseman Inc. build a new fuel strainer outlet hose (the OEM part appears to have a very small 5/16" equivalent inner diameter) with a hose having a 3/8" inner diameter 30R9 and re-used the original fittings, all for about $10.00. Any aircraft, hydraulic or industrial hose supply house in your area should be able to do the same thing, just bring in your old hose and, tell them the application and how high a spec you need for the fluid it will carry/temperature and pressure it needs to operate at and they can generally do the job for pennies on the dollar for an OEM hose of inferior quality.

Warm regards,

-BH

All of this is great information. I was just not clear regarding the B10 etc but now find that it works very well. As for the hoses I will bookmark that for later
since I just replaced all the lines with the Viton already and am hoping for a long life on them. Thanks to all.

I live near his 20148 location and hit those 2 search sites. The nearbio site has out of date info for at least 2 of the places. The Fredericksburg, VA that has the B10 does not appear to have bio at all anymore. I used to get it when I went down there and last time I was there they had the "B10" stickered over with white tape. The biodiesel.org site search engine appear to need some developer help and fails to search for me.

Smitherz, The closest station to me is in Leesburg at the "Liberty" gas station about 1/2 a block before the courthouse and the county multi level parking garage.
