control Arm for 1985 300SD
I search the forum for ball joint replacement and found a great deal of write ups on the process and the nightmare replacing them. Has anyone just replaced the entire control arm with a new arm that comes with the ball joint already mounted and the bushing?
for the price Fastlane is selling them for I figured it would make more sense going that route vice trying to mess with bulky tools to press one out and in. |

Would you be asking about upper or lower control arms?
The upper ball joint is not replaceable separately. The lower ball joint isn't mounted in the control arm to begin with. Bulky tools and suspension work are an essential combination. Last edited by tangofox007; 10-26-2010 at 03:48 PM. |

It`s the lower ball joint that is the one that is PITA to change.
I don`t think you want to purchase the lower assembly, really pricy, and if available probly doesn`t come with the ball joint. the lower assy includes the spindle. the ball joint will be a seperate purchase, around the $40ish amount. However the upper control arm is the one that comes with the ball joint as part of the arm. the upper ball joint is not a replaceable part by it`s self. Charlie

If you are speking of the upper Control Arms they can be replaced as a complete unit; and if you have a bad Ball Joint on the Upper Control Arm for sure the whole Arm has to be replaced.
