No Heat to Driver's Footwheel W126

Brrrrrrrrr frozen feet....

1986 300SDL.

I am having issues with no heat to the driver's side footwheel. My ACC is good, blows heat out other vents where heat is supposed to EXCEPT the driver's side footwheel.

Is there a vent flap that I need to pry out to let heat to dirver side?

Help...

It's probably a broken plastic link to a driver's side damper door. My late, departed 300SDL did that, and I found it easier to prop the damper door open using a carefully bent coat hanger and pushing it up inside the plenum than to remove gawd-knows how much plenum to put on a new linkage. But then, my threshold of adventure was fairly low, and you may have better luck.

I replaced the pods with new ones. I took the dash completely out and replaced all the pods during the summer. I think the vent flap may have got stuck.

On the center vent above the radio, there are three vents with levers. Is the middle lever control the vents? This middle lever is stuck and would not move either left or right. The other two vent lever move freely.

Thanks

Patrick

This is a common problem on the W126.

I've got it on both the '84 and '86.

I really wish someone would dig into it and fix it properly, but I have the suspicion that it's a lot of work. I believe the bellcrank disenages from the door.

Mine has this problem too. I replaced the pod, but the flap still isn't opening. I thought about just propping the thing open permanently, but wouldn't that reduce the intensity of the defroster?

JimH,

This is what I am thinking. Where do you insert coat hanger to prop the damper door?

I removed the footwheel panel but could not see any damper/flap to pry open. I don't want to disassemble the center console ever again.

Thanks

just for S's & G's press both the econ button and the full force button and see what happens. My footwell will work if I do that, but not if I just push econ.
