W123 fuel door rubber stop
Hi,
My 82 coupe has the fuel door with the finger indent to help open it. The rubber stopper that the door rests against to stop it in closed position is squashed pretty flat. Anyone else have one like this? Anyone come up with a good way to replace? Is it an available part? Thanks!

I bought a pack of the little rubber "feet" you can put on things that they sell at hobby stores. They have a sticky back. I think the pack cost about $2.
I stick one on the metal loop that held the buffer, and it wroks perfectly. So far I have had to replace it once or maybe twice in 3 years. I still have about 21 of them left, so I should be good for the better part of the next century

Is it also available for the w126? I've got the opposite problem; mine has actually absorbed something or another (spilled fuel? water in the air or rain? who knows) and over the years has swollen until the door doesn't close flat anymore.

I just picked up a brand spankin new Mercedes Benz OEM "rubber buffer" for my fuel door. Got it at my local, friendly and always helpful MB dealership. Cost a whopping 77 cents!
This is still a good part number, apparently...23 A 123 987 24 40 RUBBER BUFFER 001 Never ceases to amaze me how way more important, crucial parts are NLA, but you can have a new fuel door bumper for 77 cents! Go figure. |
