W124 300D Auto to Manual Swap - Floor Fastener Removal

I am here at Winmutt's helping with the pedal and shifter assembly portion of the install and I can't figure out how to remove the fasteners that hold down the styrofoam behind the pedals without breaking it or ruining the styrofoam to route the master cylinder behind it (in yellow). The fasteners are in red and the hard line/hose section is routed through the hole (in blue) to the transmission. Is there an easy way to remove these without breaking them?

They're threaded but they'll also pull straight out, if you have an instrument cluster hook or similar tool just get it under the edge, give it a little tug, reposition to the opposite side and repeat, they usually come off pretty easily after some wiggling!

I believe that they unscrew like the ones holding the false-firewall in, wouldn't bet my life on it though as I haven't pulled one in over a year.

Ditto,

Unscrew to remove, push on the install.
If they will not come off.. pull that effer with some needle nose

Yeah many times they just won't seem to ride up the threads without some upward force as you try to unscrew them. If you look at them the is a shallow screw type slot and them the two holes, almost makes you wonder of there is a certain tool designed to both hook onto it and allow it to be turned at the same time.

Thanks for the replies guys. It just so happened Rolf had some auto type dental picks that slipped into the two holes and a tug on them popped them off. They are NOT threaded they are a snap type fitting. I forgot to take a picture before I left but that's the trick, those little pullers are handy.
