How is this supposed to work? Washer Fluid "Y".

The "Y" in my washer fluid line on my '83 SD leaks like a sieve. The pic is after I removed a rubber sleeve that covered it. Is the sleeve supposed to keep it from leaking, or do I just need to replace the "Y"? It leaks a lot but I can't find any cracks. Maybe I should cut and reattach the hoses to get a better fit? Any help is appreciated.

I just replaced mine yesterday.

It is actually a check valve/splitter. I would recommend replacing the hoses too. You can get everything for under $20 US.

The new hoses are nice and soft and seal well around the check valve.

Mine did not have a rubber covering on it.

Where did the get the parts? Can I get them at fastlane or do I have to go to the stealership?

The rubber sleeve you removed keeps the fluid from draining back into the reservoir and the pressure created by the washer pump pushes the fluid past the sleeve and out the hoses to your nozzles.

I bought everything needed from ********, but FastLane/All Parts Express can get anything you need even if it's not listed in their catalog. Just call them.

EDIT: As yours is now in the pic, the fluid will just squirt out of the holes closest to the single hose side. I tried to fix one before by wrapping it with rubber tape and putting the hard plastic shell back on, but it didn't work. The new check valve is only a couple dollars.

Mine was leaking last summer. I just wrapped some teflon tape around it and worked fine. I'm replacing the hoses next time I get around to. I'm lazy.
