What anti-gel additives do you use?
It has been getting down in the 20's here in Baltimore so I decided to get some anti-gel and put it in my diesel. Last year I used Lubro-Moly anti-gel ($6.00 bottle treats 25 gallons), but this year I picked up some NAPA Anti-gel($3.00 bottle treats 50 gallons). I want to pick up some of the anti-gel stuff I see at truck stops(Lucas antigel $15.00 bottle treats 100 gallons), I wonder if it is safe for MBZ's.
What do you use, how much does it cost, any problems? |

Have been using POwer Service for about 15 years with no problems

Will second Ricali's choice
You can get Power Service from any major retailer for about $11 dollars and it will treat 300 gallons or basically 17 tanks of diesel or $.65 cents a tank. Can't beat that when it also improves cetane rating up to 4 numbers.

Winterized #2 Diesel (at least in the mid-atlantic area) seems to flow with no problems until you get down to about zero F. This observation is based upon 15 years of MB Diesel ownership experience.
Also remember that when the car is in operation a large percentage of the fuel that flows thru the fuel pump is returned to the tank via the overflow return line. This tends to keep the fuel plenty warm while the car is in use. I dont use anti-gel agents until the forecast calls for temps below 5F or so. Keep warm Tim |

I am in Michigan and also use Power Service Diesel Fuel Supplement. My local Quality Farm & Fleet has the 32 OZ (for 100 gal) for $3.99 and the 96 OZ (for 300 gal) for $8.99.
Actually to raise the cetane by 4 numbers, the dose needs to be doubled. The recommended dose is to raise by 2 numbers. |

Chalk up another vote for Power Service. You can find it at several different places. Some will say to use Red Line +85. For me though the only place that sells this stuff is the Pep Boys that is 20 miles away.

Newer diesels also have fuel warmers to heat the diesel and melt any parafins which have solidified. Any car with the 602, 603, or 606 engines has this feature. So no problem on these cars even when the fuel starts to cloud a little bit. My opinion is don't bother with this stuff until the temp drops to zero.

I had the one and only tank I didn't add it to one january gell.
Unless that has happened you really can't appreciate anti-gell. mid nov. to mid feb. once a week cheap insurance for me.

What about adding little kerosene?

using a little kerosine is mentioned the the owner's manuals for both of Benzes. I can't remember the exact ratio they reommend, but it is mentioned. This would be in the event you can't get winterized #2 diesel. I don't know if kerosine would help clean your injectors and raise the cetane number. Power Service additive seems to take care of several different things all at once. Anit-gel, cetance booster, clean and lubricate the fuel system.

Stanadyne. Sold by local independant diesel-only mechanical shop. Wouldn't trust my 240D anywhere else! ('83 w/231k mi. runs like a clock w/26.9mpg averaged over 3-1/2 years' of tank fillings. (26-33 depending))
$3.99 bottle give me 8 tanks of treatment. Bought more for the fuel conditioning qualities than anti-gel as temperatures here seldom go below 20F. |
