Blast! Valve Stem Seal Job Gone Wrong!
 

Man, this little job is a little trickier than I imagined - just f---up an exhaust seal as I have a hard time sensing when they are seated correctly, (metal jackets) the valve stem seal for the intake (green) is much easier to sense and really only needs finger pressure to seat/slip on so now I need a single exhaust valve stem seal . . . . . arghhhhh . . . . . I wish that there was a nifty little trick out there in wrenching land for this or I wish I had an extra valve guide to play around with so that I could better gauge pressure required to fit exhaust seal - not liking this job and even worse, most of my seals seem fine (versus being broken or riding on stem)

If you are useing OM or OEM Valve Stem Seals (for a 617 with a turbo) this is from the Manual:
Intake Valve Stem Seal- BLACK
Exhaust Valve Stem Seal- Green

Well at least they do not cost too much. And you might be able to sell the extras to someone else who also has the same problem.

One way of telling how far down to push the Valve Stem Seals is to measure the distance from the bottom of the Old Seals (before you remove them) to the Cylinder Head.

Hand pressure and the Brass Fitting below are what I used to press mine on.

yep, I have moved on to that phase - green for me equals intake, the metal clad are for exhaust -makes sense if you think about it. I purchase a small bushing and used the bushing, two washers and nut to press on exhaust seal, intake much easier to feel - go me!
