Angry ...got a letter from MB today

"As a valued Mercedes-Benz customer, we would like to inform you about an enhancement to our Roadside Assistance Program, as well as some changes to eligibility that will impact a small percentage of Mercedes-Benz owners."

Guess who will no longer receive free roadside assistance from MB? I'd say about 90% of forum members.

"Revised Eligibility Requirements: [...] If your vehicle is beyond its warranty period, it will still qualify for these services (including the expanded coverage) provided that your vehicle has been regularly serviced at an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealership prior to your Roadside Assistance request. "

Welcome AAA - 58 bucks a year...

That certainly makes a lot of sense. After all, a car serviced by the dealer won't run out of fuel or have a flat tire!!!

I received the same letter about a week ago. All these years I've been bragging about their assistance program. I already have AAA premiere and I'm surprised they renew me year after year as I use the heck out of them.

Got the same letter a few weeks back. "Enhancements"?? We get the same type of BS at work when they change things. Oh well it was fun while it lasted.

I was under the impression the only reason they ever offered such a service was because they didn't want anybody to see one of THEIR cars broke down on the side of the road - that would be negative advertising. I imagine if someone sent them a picture of a car broke down on the side of the road, with a "PIECE OF JUNK" sign attached, they might rethink their decision - but probably not change their policy!

If i'm reading it correctly our older cars will still "qualify" as long as you've brought it in for a service within the past year and a half (Assuming the service cost you more then $100)

Why do I get the feeling that this has come about because the dealers were whining that they weren't squeezing enough pennies out of the older vehicles?

I just called MB for a part query today. As usual, it was not in stock and this time they wouldn't give out the part number. WTF. Lucky i found an .ru site with it.

Wow. Thankfully my 500SL has mostly interchangeable parts with the 380SL and 500SEC/SEL. I couldn't imagine keeping something like a gray market G-wagon or odd ball diesel going under their new terms.

I wonder if purchasing Parts in excess of $100 within 18 months qualifies. The language states a " $100 Transaction..."

I know i've always wanted a gray market G...now i'm having second thoughts. Then again if the dealers won't provide i'm sure some sort of black market G-wagen parts store will pop up

I sure hope so.

One of the main reasons a lot of us here DON'T dealer service our cars is because many of the techs just don't know how to work on the older models. On the other hand however i'm sure everyone here has easily spent more then $100 in the past two years on those pesky 'dealer only' parts that always crop up from time to time.

how often does anyone ever actually use this service? Im very curious, I have always used AAA, even with the MB roadside service thing, just because I never wanted the car to go to any dealer where I would promptly be screwed, and AAA is always faster, and does just what you want.

Wasn't that part of the old terms? the car had to be towed to a local MB dealership? What old car owner wants that? I can't imagine any DIY person or tech allowing their old MB to be towed to a dealer under those terms, unless I misread that part of them. Usually, I want it towed somewhere of my choice where I can fix it at my leisure.
