What have I gotten myself into?
Today I introduced a 1985 300D Turbo into my stable of Toyota's. I have been a Land Cruiser fanatic for quite a while now, but now that I've acquired this MBZ I may develop another passion. The only known cure for Cruiser addiction is more Cruiser's. Is this the only cure for the diesel Mercedes sickness?
I purchased a very clean 85 300D Turbo with 206K. The exterior is in very good condition with clean shiny paint. The interior is in brown (burgundy?) and the leather is perfect! After daily driving my lifted 94 FZJ80 for the past several months the Mercedes will be a welcome treat in the daily commute! It drives like a dream! There are a few minor things that need to be addressed and I look forward to exploring this new world of Mercedes with the help of this forum. I'll be posting some pics of the new ride tomorrow. Cheers!;) Jeff Kaufman |
is it addictive...?
my sig is a SMALL percentage of the MB's in my yard... |
Nice purchase. You will be very pleased and even more pleased when you learn how simple they are.
I love the Lancruiser too. They have a nasty way of getting ahold of you. And in your case you've gotten yourself into at least two messes if not three. The first mess was your love affair with the cruisers. (I'm a lover of the Fj40 form 75-81 and like the Fj60's as well. those 80's are gorgeous too.) The second mess was getting the Mercedes. I'll go ahead and let you in on your third mess. You will drive the Mercedes. You will love it. You will adore the engine, then, inside your brain something will say, "Putting this Mercedes engine in a (older)landcruiser would not be too difficult." Your brain will be telling you the truth. I"m currently looking for a "good" condition Fj40 body to begin the conversion. I think about it all the time. My wife rolls her eyes and wonders when I will grow up. I tell her i'll be full grown when I have the Mercedes in the Cruiser. More eye rolls. Then she throws stuff at my motorcycle project. BTW- I've had the mercedes for 1 year. I already have an itch to get the yellow/mustard. Furthermore, if you wait and look around you can get strait bodies and good interiors for around $2K. Good luck on only having one. |
Welcome to the Forum.
You will enjoy your 85 the more you drive it, these are great cars. they will follow you home like a lost puppy. soon you will have a yard full, along with extra parts and stuff  ;) :D. Charlie |
Welcome to the forum Jeff,
The Mercedes is a lot different to the cruiser. They should complement each other. My rule is that if I cant go there in the Mercedes, I should not go there any way. No need for a 4WD or should that be $WD. Good luck with you car !! |
Addictive? Heh. I've never seen my wife sandblast, clean, or otherwise lift a finger for anything but our Merc, and it was the car that inspired her to follow me to the junk yard to hunt for parts the day after our wedding. What does that tell you?
Crack ain't got nothin' on these old Mercedes. You're in for it, now. :uhoh: Welcome to the addiction... I mean, club! :D |
Ha ha another one caught in the net - post some photos please

I've got a 94 Cruiser and I've had a bunch of MB's. Used to have a couple of FJ 55's. If your interior is in good condition with that many miles, chances are it's MB Tex and not leather. 85 has the best road gearing.
