OVP relay again? REALLY?!!

Started Pandora to drive her home, tach needle lays limp, ABS light on, low idle, ... again? Seems that every M-B I have owned needs one of these silly little relays after 200,000 miles, some of them even before that! You'd think that Mercedes would build a better car than this! I think I'm going to take it back and complain. Stupid Siemens relays.

Seriously though, it is a pain as I don't have a spare around this time (well, a used one will have to do until the magic brown truck brings a new one).

You're poking the bear AE, poking the bear. Better have an OVP in the mail soon.

If you drove a proper MB with a 617 engine you would find no such relay, then it cannot fail!

I replaced it on my 300E two years ago when I bought it....haven't had any issues since.

I have 5 sitting on the shelf. gotta love the junk yard. Eventually I'll buy a new one incase they screw up, but for now the junk yard ones will suffice. my garage is turning into a mini warehouse for this car...

True perhaps, but I'll replace a $60 relay every 200,000 miles if it's what I have to do to have a 603 ($.0003.mile). It's still less expensive than a set of valve-adjustment wrenches for a 617!

It's a cheap fix compared to the normal suspension overhaul that most Mercedes need by 200,000 miles / 25 years anyway, I shouldn't be complaining.

In my 190E's case, it was the fuel pump relay, not the OVP.

This is one of those things you should get extras for if you own an 85+ MB.

Are all OVP relays the same?

And yes, I've had to replace it on the '95. Darn, mine only lasted about 177K Mog. You must be doing something I'm not......

What fails in the OVP anyway? The contacts wear out?

Wonder what fails? All the early OVPs had is a relay, a Zener diode, and a fuse. I suppose the Zener could fail or the relay contacts could burn but it's not like they see a heavy load, the fuse is only 10 Amps.
