1984 300SD, Oil all over the engine compartment!!!

Hey!

I just found out one of my new motor mounts I replaced in February, the motor mount under the IP has collapsed and is sitting on the frame and cut into the new upper oil cooler hose I replaced in February, the same time I did the motor mounts.

I feel lucky I didn't loose this motor.

The only time the upper hose leaks is when I drive hard and heat up the oil, which in turn opens the thermostat in the filter housing to cool the oil and poof!!! Oil every where!!!

I didn't catch the problem right away, I would pressure wash the engine compartment and it would stay clean for 3 or 4 days and then all of a sudden there was oil every where, this went on for about a month, I would pressure wash it each time it blew oil every where.

I am going to replace the hood pad also, it is like a big sponge full of oil, what a mess!!!

So, from now on I will be more careful when changing my filters, I didn't realize how a little fuel on that rubber can dissolve it.

Jim

Sadly, the mounts should be more resistant.

Can you tell us the manufacturer of your new mounts?..... or, at least, what brand name was on them?

sorry to say I can't, I would only be guessing and I don't want to do that, but I am keeping track this time, I am using a different supplier this time.

Was it a blue box with white writing, maybe? Or a plastic bag with blue writing?

I about to do this and I am little concerned, as I already bought them.

If you have no oil leaks & no diesel leaks even cheap & nasty mounts will last a few years.
Fix the problem (the leak) before you replace the mount.
The sites buy parts link have good mounts at a good price.

I'm sorry I can't tell you,

I bought name brands this time and will be covering the mounts with aluminum foil or? something to protect them better and I will be putting a rag down when changing my filters to catch any fuel I may spill.

Just be careful and I think you will be just fine, also keep an eye on your power steering belt, watch how close it is getting to the upper oil cooler line, if it is with in a 1/2" I would be concerned!

Yes, it does have a metal plate,
but it doesn't cover the whole rubber mount and I was trying to figure out a miss in a cylinder by cracking open the injectors and letting the diesel flow freely all over my motor mount! Also I changed out fuel lines and the filter, my guess is it all added up and killed the motor mount............live and learn!!!

I replaced the upper oil cooler hose and both motor mounts (Lemfoerder ) and also replaced the check valve at the bottom of the oil return line from the air cleaner housing, ran the 1984 300SD down the road at a high rate of speed and the motor compartment was spotless when I arrived at home!!!
The motor mounts that came out were Meyle, but I do not belive they are bad, I belive I destroyed them with diesel!!!
Thank You all for your help on this issue.
Jim
