How much coolant can I expect to lose

If I try and replace the water pump without draining the block?

I just discovered some coolant drips on my drive way about a month after I did my coolant flush (evil green was in there).

I'd suggest using the drain valve on the radiator to catch the coolant in a clean container. Then remove the wp. Don't know how much of the block that will get, but it would surely help.

Well, I was trying to avoid draining the block simply because I just did a coolant change. If I let it drain out it will gather all sorts of gunk and oil along the way.

Should have replaced the pump when I had the whole thing drained

Drain it into a bucket.
Probably You will loose 1/4 (guess) .
You will loose a lot more if the WP seal lets go.
If its facing down hill when you drain, more will be recovered.
Its easy to decant any gunk out of it.
Are yo sure its your WP ?

Good Luck !!

you will lose all the coolant that sits above that point.

no, you will not get it in fast enough.... i think I tried ;{

so everything in the head, the bottle, 1/2 the radiator, 1/2 the block etc...

pull the small hose from the bottom of the radiator and save the coolant in jugs.
