84 300sd trans vs 85 300sd trans

I see that the 84 sd uses a 722.315 trans and 85 uses 722.303. Does anyone know what is different? Must be gear ratios or something since they both bolt up to the 617. Just curious.

I am pretty sure the vehicle speed sensor is the main difference for the 1985 tail shaft housing. Do you know if your cluster has a cable for the speedo?

My 85 has electronic speedo. Does 81-84 have mech speedo? Don't know if 86 has elec or if even same trans. My MB tech data book only goes to 85.

1981-1985 300SD's and 1981 300TD uses the 722.303 trans. The 722.315 are used on 1982-1985 300D/CD/TDs.

Same gear ratios, except for as noted earlier the .303 has an electronic input for the speedometer.

1985 uses the higher stall speed torque converter and a different vacuum line setup for the modulator.
