W210 E300D Resonance flaps question

Cleaned both flaps and checked vacuum lines for leaks. Neither flap pods will hold vacuum -- they slowly bleed down. They both do it at the same rate leading me to reckon they are engineered to do so.

What say you 210 resonance flap experts? Yes? No? Are my flaps terminal? Has anyone tried to repair the vacuum pods for these?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Bill, I believe these are controlled by PCM signals so they get a fairly constant supply of vacuum and in practice, should maintain position even with the bleed down.

It would be interesting to have the owner of similar vehicle perform the same test for comparison. Mine's a 98 so no flaps.

Seems to me I once tested the flap pods on my '96 E300D (W210, OM606NA) and they held vacuum just fine. But that was a while ago and I can't repeat the test until the car returns from the body shop in a few weeks.

Bill I believe they are supposed to hold vacum. I did that test on that car once but like others it was some time ago and cannot recall with certainty what the results were.

Well crap. Maybe my connection to the MityVac was leaking.

Getting some injector return line this am to button her back up. She was doing the resonator flap dance at 45mph. I'll post back how she runs with clean flaps and a new EGR bypass.

They hold vacuum.

Check the rubber lines. I had new lines leak vacuum even though it looked like they fit well. They've got to be the right ones for the rubber-to-plastic connection at the actuator.

Tested straight to the flap -- no lines. Tested my lines separately -- they're good.

Car drives wonderfully now.

Hmm.
