drunk driver took out my customer's 84TD

his wagon was parked in his yard, and a drunk driver just barreled into it... destroyed the vehicle. I mean, the doors don't even line up anymore...
how fast did this moron waste of air have to be going to so severely damage a 123 wagon?
anyway, I've got to come up with a replacement for his ride... he wants to know what can be salvaged from the wagon.
car took a hit in the front, passanger side, severe impact. I'm pretty sure, the sls reservoir is toast, and of course, the air cleaner too. maybe the turbo, we'll see. it had a euro front setup on it... so he needs new hellas, and a new euro bumper... car's not repairable, but he wants to make as much survive as he can.
I'll post pics if I can get some.

Yikes, sorry to hear. Glad he was not physically involved and nobody was hurt.

That must have been a huge hit. Worst I've seen with my own eyes was at the yard, a TD lost half the length of its hood with the 1/3 front of the roof buckling a little.

Best way to let the radiator meet the sway bar without removing either part.

They have pretty well proved here that if you make it very expensive for driving under the influence it almost totally dissapears.

A friend noticed that the fine for speeding at 150 kilometers or 90 mph is now 10,000 dollars as posted on the trans canada highway through Ontario. Plus there may be a other charges as well.

Same as driving with no insurance. Make the fines high enough and enforce them. It is no longer a problem or vastly reduced. If people respect nothing else it seems they do respect their wallets.

The chances of having a collision here with an uninsured or drunk driver is almost totally nil. To compound the issue for anyone that wants to attempt driving with no insurance you have to prove insurance at time of renewal of plating etc. Plus the stop points for checking your paperwork are plentyful in the spring and summer and around the holiday season. Every car gets stopped at least a few times a year. The police even set up roadblocks on the major highways.

Sad to hear that another one bites the dust.
It is so lucky that none of the family or your friend wer injured.
Pitty the drunk wasnt more seriously hurt. Until these morons get hurt enough so they can drive they just do it again & again.

I knew a family who lost 3 of their children and almost the mother in a DWI accident in upstate NY back in the early 90s. The guy went away for a life sentence. In parts of NC, the judges we have here cause a revolving door for all kinds of offenders. I bet if you look at this piece of sh&t's record, you will find what amounts to a list of things that any other state would have him/her behind bars for. Glad all sober ones are okay, though. Sorry about the wagon loss, though.

Should have had it parked in his driveway instead of yard.

I'm not certain of the details of where it was parked, I think it was in his driveway.

yup parts car. he's hoping the engine did not take much of a hit. he's pretty sure the waterpump is smashed. hopefully the block is ok. it depends on what the insurance company is willing to pay vs what they want for the totaled car...

Depends on how hard. Nothing from the front suspension would be trustworthy IMO. Hit hard enough from the side, the motor mount arm could've been pushed through the engine. Who knows. Get in there and find out.

Sounds like the interior is salvageable though. I've still got my '84 TD up on stands in the garage. I've stripped pretty much everything except the motor and the dash. Pulling the sunroof tray was fun (ouch).

Wait till the owner finds out you sent the fellow over to have a look at his station wagon. I think I understand your desire to find another car for him.

yeah. when he said the doors didn't align anymore, I knew it was bad, but WOW look at the lawn in the pic. the car used to be pointing left of the pic, in the driveway WAAAAAY behind the car.
I understand the drunk idiot ran away leaving his car in the yard... scumbag has no insurance. I hope they lock him away!
