Sounds more like the testimony of an incorrect or malfunctioning thermostat.

I would not disagree with you on that. I guess my point is that there are/were no restrictions.

Just a note that around here that the rad shops won't rod/rebuild the Behr rads anymore.

no a/c eh? that'll keep the cooling system cooler too...
No point in cleaning it, it just gets dirty again.

Indeed no A/C, no need for it in MI....why spend all that $$ and time keeping it working when you only need it maybe 15 days of the year. Makes no sense. I have since removed the entire compressor from the car.

No need in West Michigan perhaps... it gets hot on the east side of the state

It's amazing how clean a cooling system will stay when proper coolants and replacement procedures are used

Thumbs up

Ten years on a daily driver is about it for me.

Do they last longer? Sure.

Post-rebuild failures get blamed on the rebuilder--do the work and if the neck cracks six months later, the customer expects a replacement rad. People tend to not understand what was done, and what was not touched.

The rebuilders weren't offering much more than 30 days guarantee on the rebuilt units and according to my friend who co-owns a shop, you had to pound the counter to get even that for customers. Why go through that grief when most customers don't know a rad is rebuildable, in the first place?

Overall, the general feeling is that the plastic rads in general are poor quality. It's easier and much less fuss to sell a new one.

Same with alternators. Most shops won't replace brushes and none will open one up. They just sell a rebuilt unit. At least the better shops are careful about where the rebuilts come from....

This is the rust belt, heavy duty. No one fixes much around here now. Everything is disposable. Including the cars themselves... many shops don't want to touch vehicles over 6 years old. Incredible.

"I am rather obsessive about new parts. Can't complain, as I've driven my car 100k in the past 7.5 years without a single breakdown....not even a flat tire. "

you know that's not true. you've got an old benz. **** breaks down. come out and admit it when it does
