Rest of the world too
I have a 91 300d with a 603.960 from Japan. I am pretty sure they made them in 92 as well. Cheers

There happen to be non-turbo euros, I wouldn't use that as a rule though. 100% of our cars after 1983 or whatever are turbo, so any percentage of euro n/a cars seems like a lot.
We had one engine option per year, they had several.

my bad, it was a 92 SD non turbo... I got to watch those letters I always seem to miss them. This is the rod bender engine no?

That would be a turbo 300sd. Yep, rodbender.

Correct. This is an S-class, not an E-class [actually, the "E-class" designation hadn't yet been publicly released]. This car has the 3.5 liter OM603.97 "rod-bender" engine. If such a car can be bought in good condition for next to nothing, it can be driven until the engine implodes and an OM603.96 3 liter engine from a 1987 300D Turbo transplanted, combining the later head from the '92 rod-bender with the older 3 liter '87 block. The you'd have a nice car with a reliable engine.

That IS a turbo. The W140s don't have TURBO emblazoned on the back, but it IS still there. It says 300SD, it is a really a 3.5L Turbo.

I would imagine that it is possible that a 3.0 swap has already been done. I can't think of any other (good) reason why someone would change a "350" label to a "300".

That year they were all called 300SDs, regardless of the size of the motor (which happened to all be 3.5L). The next year it was called an S350. The last W126s were 350SDLs, the first W140 diesels were 300SDs, and the last W140 diesels were S350s. Speaking of US spec cars only. All OM603 3.5L.
