MORE WINTER HEAT

Anybody try a ZEROSTART tank heater? Ad says it circulates warm coolant thru entire engine. I got in contact with company, was told there is no pump in unit. It hooks up to heater hose.
Currently I have a ZEROSTART unit that goes in the lower radiator hose.
It warms things up, but doesn't seem to circulate thru the heater hose.
Thought someone out there might have had some experiance with the tank unit.

I don’t have any experience with the tank unit, but are you really needing more heat? Is your car not starting when it’s cold? Does your 84 have compression issues? I find it hard to believe that it circulates water with no pump. I know a lot of people have the in hose heater like I do on the forum. Maybe a search would help better. But I would stay with the hose heater. It works great for me even down to 29 degrees. Hell my car does better in the cold then I do. haha

Block Heater

Ryan,

Do you realize your chassis has a Block Heater, from the Factory?
(All you need is the Power Cord)

Get an inexpensive A/C timer and plug the Block Heater in so that it
is set to go on 4 hours before you need the car.
Instant HEAT in the passenger cabin, as soon as you light off the engine.

I don`t think they all came from the factory with a block heater. at least my 85 didn`t.

Hot water rises, cold water sinks, so it creates a coolant flow through the block.

The MB block heater is only 400 watts. the zerostart tank heaters come in various wattages. I know they have a 1500 watt heater. don`t remember
what the lower wattages are.

Don`t even think of installing a block heater. almost to impossible to get the plug out with the age of these old engines. can be done.

Block heater.

I believe block heaters were standard on all W126 diesels. The plug is probably just hidden. Check the tow-hook door.

I was looking for opinions from people who tried a tank heater. I am
not having trouble starting my car. And, I don't want to mess with the stock block heater.
Thanks

my 83 has a zerostart heater hose heater in it, and it does work.
a customer of mine also has an 83 with a zerostart, but he has not tried his.

by the way, my customer's car is an SD and it does not have a block heater...
