85 300sd motor mounts ,driver side is a B%@tc$

Never done a 300sd , the passenger side really is a cake walk .For this back bolt on the driverside motor mount its a different story.Looks to me that if you pull the injection pump primer it will give you access to that last bolt .Is this the secret?

Except when the PO screws up the bolts accessed from above

My next project is to remove the turbo and exhaust manifold to get at that thing

You should NOT have to remove any components to access.

are you talking about the motor mounts themselves, or the aluminum arm that attaches to the block?

Ive got the passenger sides looose, then the one bolt closest to the fender on the driver loose ,its the inner one that is not giving up the secret.Ive jacked the motor up to pull up on the relaxed old motor mount and have some more room but its a tricky spot to get to.A 6mm hex on a swivel then 12in extention .When the primer piece is out of the way it looks doable.I remember this project on a 300d ,not so bad with time for lunch in between .Im not throwing wrenches as of yet ,I lose to many that way.

ahh. my solution for that was to get a 6mm allen wrench, grind down the short side about 1/4" and it fits in there tight. loosen the bolt, then use a ball socket end to remove the bolt.

Turned out the bolt was stripped ,Id taken the other bolt off then wiggeled the mount then tried a screw driver down into the bolt ,luck was on my side.Required me to take the mount piece off the engine ,wasnt long before I had it going back together.

At least it wasn't the main bolt going up into the arm that was stripped or cross threaded. THAT is a fun job.
