I got another MB out of my yard! 82SD OUT!

My buddy flew down from PA to go over the car last night, and we nit-pic'd it and found some things needing upgrade. took it to the pull a part and pulled (in plain HORRIBLE WEATHER) door handles, arm rests, etc... and he drove it home!
(he's still on the road, as he left about 2:00 today, and it's a 9 hour drive... and he's already hit iced over roads...
one thing I found at issue with the car is it has a tendency to run hot. I flushed and flushed and cleaned, and filled to the utmost capacity the cooling system, replaced the WP etc. no change. the thing still likes to climb up to 120 at some points in the drive.
I put in three different thermostats, and finally just drilled a pair of 1/4" holes in one. it's never gotten above 85 since I did that...
I told him he likely has a bad headgasket or a cracked head that will need attention soon. the car also has the defrost on max no matter where the settings are on the CCU, so I told him how to resolder it.
also are the issues with the odometer, and the clock... also info given how to fix.
but for a $900 buy, he's happy as can be.
I told him nothing is more expensive than a cheap mercedes, and he kinda looked askew at me.
the car has 4 brand new calipers, and rotors. (I wish I had seen them BEFORE HE CAME TO GET THE CAR!!!) almost perfect wood (ditto) and very decent leather seats, with only a pair of cracks each. no rust, ivory SD that's been "upgraded" with body molding below the pinstripe, and nicely done chrome eyebrows. I told him they should be removed if he wants to keep the car rust free. and daily car washes in the winter are needed.
the wires in the door hinge are bad, as the seat only moves with the door open, and the driver's window is the same way.

since I picked the car up for him I've put in:
5 new BOSCH Glow plugs
new alternator bracket as the old one was ground off to fit a normal bolt in there...
replacement pulley with dual grooves...
new water pump
full new belt compliment.
full flush of all fluids and filters. oil, tranny, diff, brake, coolant.
repaired battery tray
fully charged good 49 battery.
turbo o-rings on the U-tube
installed a new B-2 piston kit
and installed a newly rebooted half shaft....
I feel totally comfortable having him drive this car to PA... perhaps not in this weather... but the CAR will handle the driving fine.
anybody wanna tally up what I should charge for the repairs to the car?

oh yeah, and I gave him two spare bunts for snow tires, and put 4 deep tread decent tires on the car for him. verified the spare is solid, and made sure he has a good jack and lug wrench.

ya... I really tried to get him a stable vehicle. his wife isn't keen on him driving an old mercedes diesel.

I wish I did have the car to sell, he bought it from PO through me. I am just getting paid for the parts and such I put into it... in a "few months"
I sent him some links to this site for fixing the things left on the car that need it. He'll be signing up and posting soon I bet.

he just sent me a text, no heat on the trip up... grrr

It's an unspoken consensus that anything over 100K on any vehicle is a harbinger of doom and destruction. That and the fact that they "stink".
