1987 Tdt trans fluid clear light red on dipstick. Not

My trans started slipping after several hours running around town. Checked fluid. It's on dipstick but it is clear light red. Not dar red like it is in bottle. I added a quart and the level rose way above line but it got us home. What's going on ?

Last time I topped up unused Lucas stop slip. It was red.

Oh when this happened I had reverse but it just would slip going forwWard. I've been trying to pinpoint this problem for a while. It's always after long drive. I had thought I had it nailed down to tranny leak but now I don't know.
Maybe the tranny is just going out.

Thanks for any help.

... light red as in pink? you may have water leaking into the transmission.

How many miles has it done?
Sounds like you have had a problem for a while if you have added that Lucas C##P.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. I'll snap a pic tomorrow and check my coolant level. Ive never had to top off coolant in year I've had car. I changed fluid and filter maybe 5000 miles ago.

I'm going to feel cooler hoses and see if the fluid is getting cooled. It was raining the other day when problem occurred.

if it's pink, from water, when driving, the oil will froth, check the fluid after a short drive. if it is pink and frothy, I'd pull the trans cooler lines off, bypass the cooler, and drain all your fluid and fill with fresh fluid, drive a bit to warm up that fluid, then drain it, and re fill. and I'd do it TODAY...

2x. You can live without the cooler until you get a new radiator, if that is actually the problem.
