diesel no heat w126

Driving in 1 degree weather my heater quit. Finally fuel line froze then 6 days later I got the car started.I noticed a smell like burning carpet.I've really had a time getting the car running when the hood cable snapped.Only solution was to punch out the grille.
Those who have had this smell please tell me where to look first.
I'm thinking heater control unit. Also aux water pump frozen.

Few years back I put a 1A fuse in the power to pump wire. I was told to do this on this forum to eliminate the pump taking down the PCB.

just unplug the aux water pump if you want to test your new 2 u climate control. The aux pump isn't THAT important....depending on how much you idle. When you are driving, the coolant is pumped through the heater core very efficiently. My aux pump hasn't worked, ever. pretty sure it fried the ccu originally. I unplugged the pump and resoldered and my climate control has been fine ever since.

Here is a thread about burned up/fried printed circuit CCU boards.

Good read for new members.

Unplug the monovalve connector, that should provide heat all the time.
With a dead ccu, heat could come out of any vent.

I ned a lot of info on component location and vacuum diagrams for my 91 350SDL W 126. It was incorrectly set up so when the defrost button is punched, max hot air goes to defrost. I have so far been unable to find the info I need to fix this.

I need the vacuum diagram and info on climate control. Does anyone have these files? I have so far not found them among the .pdf files benhogan provided, which were pretty complete.

Still also looking for a Xerox of the 350SDL owner's manual, may talk to a dealer and get a complete VMI when I have him make me a key copy this week.

My neighbor had a small stinky fire that I thought my car was burning. But I will still put a 1 amp fuse to aux pump.I check heater main fuse(good). So it maybe that blower has up and died.
I will have to wait till thrusday to fix, then we will have balmy 50 degrees.

Isn't that set up correctly? At least that is what happens on the 123's and 116's.

From the climate control manual...
Function selection "a" (defrosting)

With the ignition switched on, the blower will start immediately and operates in the 6th blower stage only.

Independent of the temperature dial adjustment, max. heated air will be routed to windshield.

The recirculating pump is always running along and the refrigerant compressor is switched on. If, with the ignition switch on, function selection "a" or "b" is pushed, followed by switching to "c" or "d", the system remains in operation also below 33 degrees C coolant temperature.
