Diesel Injection Locking Tool
Howdy everyone,
I have a question for ya. As per my sig I have a 1981 W126 Mercedes 300SD. I need to remove the injection pump to replace its seal between it and the block. I was curious to as which tool is needed for the job to lock the inj. pump's cam., tool #601-0521 or #900-8673. Also, what do they mean by "later" model inj. pump? Thank you.

The IP that uses the 601 589 21 00 = (#601-0521) Locking Pin/Screw will look like the Pic Below.
The 2 Yellow Arrows point to 2 Screws that attach a separate plate to the Fuel Injection Pump Governor housing. The Plug screws into the separate plate. This is the same as on my 1984 300D IP. On the Older IPs while there is a smaller Plug in the same position but the Plug screws into the Casting of the IP Governor Housing; there is no separate plate that the Plug screws into. The Green Arrow points to the Locking Pin/Screw installed. The above information is for MW Fuel Injection Pumps. If you have an M Pump I do not know what would work on it.

On the M pump I used a lug bolt. The MW has a notch in the cam so you need a tool that will fit into the notch. On the M there is a flat spot on the cam that faces the plug. The plug is the same thread as the lug bolt, so I cleaned up a lug bolt. the flat tip of the bolt presses against the flat spot on the cam.
I still want to get the correct tool, but a bolt worked in a pinch.

Below is a pic of the older style MW pump. The Red Arrow points to the Plug where the Locking Pin/Screw would go. Notice that the Plug is small and that the Plug threads into the Governor Housing directly and not into a separate thread Plat screwed into the Housing.
I believe this is the one that the tool that started with #900 is for.
