what to do with the 92 300d and the 83 300sd

Ok so my 92 has been a handfull and after dumping a ton of money into it, it still surges at idle. My 83 has alot of rust and the starter is almost done, but it runs really well once u get it started. I in the mean time have been driving a 6.0l v8 chevy with a liftgate that gets 10.5mpg. Well im done I need a cheap good mpg car, and im not investing anymore money in the Mercedes. So what should I do with em, scap qoute wasn't much for the 300sd, and I have no idea on the 300d. I am willing to take losses at this point. I need sugestions on what to do with em at this point

I'd get another 300SD in the $2000 price range, and use yours as a parts car... If the wife's ok with that.

no idea on the surging? have you started a thread here and had the 2.5 crowd assist you with ideas on what's causing it? rust is a killer for trying to sell a car, toss in a weak starting example, and it'll be difficult to sell. I've seen ohio cars... corrosion is the norm, have you pulled all the wires off the battery, block junction block etc and cleaned and treated them for corrosion resistance? It may help your starting problem. at least get you a better MPG vehicle while you figure out wahts up with the 2.5...

I have had several threads on here about this cars running issues. Everytime I think I have it fixed, something else has gone wrong. Ive had the car for over 6months and been able to drive it about 250mi.

As far as the sd, Ive done every trick I could find to avoid replacing the starter. Ive cleaned grounds and all the conections, and still nothing. As of right now as a 16 year old I need to get rid of these two money pits and get a nice little beater 4cyl. And yes ohio rusting is bad. However the 300d has NONE, it appears to be a suthern car.

IIWY, I'd donate 'em both to charity, and take it off your income tax and start over. However I see you are running an ad to sell them here. Do a craigslist ad too. Just a suggestion. The 10.5 mpg vehicle would need to go too, were it mine. What is your budget for a new replacement car?

Age, has nothing to do with whether or not you have a tax option.

heh, yeah lots of 16 year olds have incomes high enough to get a benefit from donating two cars... I suppose the kid should have said he's only working part time, or said his job doesn't make any deductable income to deduct...

or that the kid is applied at 17 differerent buisnesses, but hes competeing with adults who are now going at the jobs that used to be considered teenage jobs because of our wonderfull economy and job market...just saying As of right now Im on craigslist selling computer and projector equipment to pay for the gas to and from school.

As far as the cars go it was one big swipe of bad luck that I just can no longer afford or need to be worrying about as a teenager.

Well, it is in fact all about taxable income. Regardless his age. If it is tax advantageous, donating a vehicle away is a good move. I started giving away junk cars in my 20s. I was driving a '71 Cadillac Fleetwood 75 Sedan with 315K miles on it. What a POS! It freed me up to spend my time earning more money. At least that's what worked for me. You can never start early enough, at least from my perspective on your future.

At the end of the day, it all comes down to money. It usually does FWIW. Do what you can with the better one. Take care now and good luck to you!
