Turn Signal - Windshield Wiper Problem
2008 ML320 CDI. When I start this vehicle up when cold, like western Wisconsin, the first couple of times I signal the wiper will make one swipe. I have had the habit of leaving the wiper control in the lowest intermittent setting because it was convenient and there never was an issue until this winter.
Anyone else have this occur? Is there equipment malfunction? Thanks, Jim W. |

my mom's 06 ml 430 did that every so often. I attributed it to random soda etc. splashes... the center screen never did work right...

I thought it could be a dirty sensor in the windshield but have dismissed that because the wiper doesn't activate until I use the turn signal. I also dismiss that I am somehow causing the swipe because it only occurs when I first start driving. If it were caused by me I would think it would happen often because I use my turn signals regularly.
That's why I'm concerned it may be a combination switch problem. Jim W. |

wiper with turn signal
I have the same problem in my 1993 300d. It happens more at random for me. Hopefully someone will revisit this with a possible solution or explanation.

I had a Ford Expedition that had this type of problem. I think the Ford message boards called it the "phantom wipe". I sent it to the dealer to have it fixed and they wound up replacing the multifunction switch.
You may also want to hit the ML-specific section of this website and ask the question there. |

I had a similar problem in my 240 a while back. I had random wipering. They would turn on whenever they felt like it. It ended up being moisture and grease inside the turn signal combo switch on the end of the stalk. My have a look at it. I know my 240 is a far cry from your CDI, but here is my thread:
