With that lite body, it ought to really Zoom compared to the MB chassis it came out of.

I have seen the Maxima LD-28 Diesel engine in the 240Z swaps quite often. this is the first MB swap I have seen.

This may be a pointless swap to some, but it was this guys dream project.

Interesting

I'm surprised that the 240Z chassis is tall enough to hold the OM606 - "seeing is believing."

The L engines are really tall, I bet an OM617 could fit under there without much trouble. Now, one of those drifting OM60Xs would be really nice under there, two dream engines for me!

That turbo 606 pulls hard in that car. Great video.

The Spirit of HotRodding

Very cool! At first I thought, geez, dont let it run so long ; you'll burn the exhaust valves, but... DOH! its a DIESEL!

Pointless? I'd consider that endeavor coming from the very core spirit of hotrodding. I enjoyed the ride!

they better had put a BIG anti sway/stiffer springs ( nt knowing the underside of a 280Z) in the front of that ride if they think it'll slice a corner!

Pointless? What if they're rigging to run petrol-less, or on nat gas?

Some people on here think that anything that isn't their high mountain lifestyle is wrong and pointless. I have been told that I shouldn't be allowed to have a 617 if I'm going to commit the heresy of putting it in a non-Mercedes vehicle. That person is why the ignore feature was created.
I say it's awesome to see something like this, a creative use of an engine and I bet that thing gets better than 30mpg when not racing, vs the mid to high teens it would have gotten with the gas engine.

Actually, I don't think it's "wrong," I just don't see the point of a front engine diesel sports car. I also don't see the point of diesel motorcycles. I like diesels, I like sports cars, and I like motorcycles; just not at the same time. It's an interesting project and it appears to be nicely done, but I still don't "get it." I don't really care about hacking up a 240Z or using a 606 engine for this application, but I would have no interest in owning the finished product. Apparently, someone thought it was worth their time and money, I hope they enjoy it.

OTOH, using a perfectly good 617 for an old truck could be described as "heresy." I only hope the engine core is eventually available for rebuilding.

Hopefully, that will keep me on his ignore list for a while longer.
