Used Flex Disks

Mercy......
There must be a better way to make a dollar than pulling and selling used flex disks....
Times would have to be mighty hard to save that tiny $$$
After all the work to get one off...I think new ones yield a bit more peace of mind.....
Those things are not much fun to swap....just the work securing the vehicle on jack stands is worth putting on new disks....
I would consider used ones if we reach a Mad Max, Road Warrior, state of civilization.....after I mount the pneumatic spear gun and flame thrower on the hood.....

Probably there are a few dodgy car yards that are good customers of his. Why pay for new when it doesnt have to last long?

Yeah but I can buy a new one for that price over here - daft price for a worn out part. May be he got the decimal point in the wrong place?

Unhappy flex disks

Yep....have mercy....Maybe used for those customers....Only a 10 buck savings over new when shipping figured in....
Myself ...I will pay the 10 buck difference for new....after seeing those posts pics of when a disk turned loose and the driveshaft resculpted the transmission tunnel and hardware under vehicle ...I am scared to death of used flex disks.....those things can ruin your whole day or week.....

Hey Army,
I have some good (for nothing) used suspension bushes on my 1980 300D (see my sig for mileage). You want them cheap?!!!

Have a pair of front shocks, They were leaking a couple of 100k miles ago but have stopped leaking (probably all the oil has leaked out ), I could give them a coat of paint & make them look like new. Want them as well?

Hang on a minute wasnt there a guy on here a little while ago selling junk (now banned)?

I don't know who got banned - I try and keep out of PP politics - I did try giving away my old worn out bits here (on a Dutch version of ebay) too but unsurprisingly there were no takers.

Really what is wrong with the world? (For the uninitiated that is sarcasm that is...)

EDIT:-

I forgot to say Happy New Year layback40

You seemed a bit down yesterday and the day before - I hope all is well.

edit...
some facts.

"Real" unemployment is close to 23%
Some of those unemployed own older Mercedes
Eventually some of those flex discs break on the unemployed Mercedes Owner's car.
Behind on their mortgage, and owning a car that runs but doesn't drive due to a failed flex disc,,,

Being "That" seller, I am providing a service that some knuckleheaded members may disapprove of, but some real humans are glad as heck to have found me on eBay.

Maybe other ebayers paint old leaking shocks, but I don't usually bother to pull them, unless of course they are worthy, as I guarantee ALL parts sold.

Are you done insulting me? Please tell me your eBay userid, so that I can block you from buying any of my stuff. And in 6 months, when Mad Max shows up, you might apologize for your devilishly clever insulting posts.

And as far as used pistons, here's one for you

Oh BTW those pictures of torn up tunnels, the flex disc gives some warning after it breaks. typically a rather loud Thump. Now for someone to drive their car with a major Thump everytime the accelerator is pressed, or the brakes are applied, they kinda deserve a torn up tunnel. you wouldn't be speaking from experience, now would you?

Mespe,
The point to the critiques offered for your products, at least this item, is that anyone who drives an old vehicle should know better than to slap on a used, difficult-to-replace, safety-critical part that can be had new for ten bucks more. Of all the parts you can sell from recycling, this one sets a bad example for your business model, and makes you appear exploitive. That's what the folks here are poking you about. You're claim that you guarantee all your parts rings a little hollow when your return policy is taken into account and the particular item is considered. If that disc failed after 100 miles, would you refund the purchase price when someone sent the pieces back?

If you would be a little more circumspect about the stuff you try to sell on ebay, this crowd might be a bit more forgiving and might even buy from you. Many of us DO buy stuff on ebay despite the criticisms. So get over it.

$10 bucks more? available here on peachparts @ $61.00

http://catalog.peachparts.com/ShopByVehicle.epc?q=1983-MERCEDES--BENZ-300d&yearid=1983%40%401983&makeid=63%40%40MERCEDES+BENZ%40%40X&modelid=6191%3AED%7C10000135%3AMBC%7C1504%40%40300D&mode=SS&yearid=1983%40%401983&makeid=63%40%40MERCEDES+BENZ%40%40X&modelid=6191%3AED%7C10000135%3AMBC%7C1504%40%40300D

What you need to realize is that when a person has no money and a broken flex disc, are they wanting to pay close to $70 for a new part, or $20 for a used? Let's see $50 @ $8.00/hour wow that's a days labor for some.

Safety-critical part? Have you ever had a flex disc break on your car? I have, years ago, on a 1976 240D. A loud Clank whenever the accelerator pedal or brake is applied. Car was still driveable, and I'm sure if I continued to drive it because it was driveable and I didn't have the money to replace it, eventually it would tear up the trans tunnel and if by chance you were following me, I would think that you would have preferred that I replaced the known broken flex disc with atleast a good used one.
edit... as I said, many flex discs can fail with no audible warning. don't go spouting this. it's not 100% a foolproof warning!edit...

BTW, I would venture to say that the three flex disc I currently have in my possession are replacements only a few years old.

If you don't want to buy from me because I offer for sale a used flex disc, then by all means pm me your ebay userid an I'll be happy to block you from buying any of my stuff, that way there is no issue.

Unhappy Flex Disks

Sorry if you took my post as an insult....not intended to stir up hard feelings.....
I was just saying that for the amount of work....knowing I had a new part under there would lower the (how is it holding up ?) uncertainty...I understand about helping folks that are low on money but long on spare time....and that is a good thing to do....you are correct saying that the price difference is of concern to someone unemployed and just trying to get by with low cost but nessasary transportation....
The tunnel resculpting did not happen to me as I checked and replaced the disks as soon as I purchased my 2 diesels....and you are also correct saying that anyone driving with those prefailure noises is asking for trouble.....The 10 buck price difference is from another source that offers free shipping for any orders over 50 bucks.....if they have them in stock...
Again...sorry if you took my posts as insulting ...just my failed attempt at humor......

Yours was about the only one that I didn't feel insulting. Actually the Mad Max thing was kinda funny, even though I feel like it might be imminent.

But others, that belittled my business and cause me economic harm, have no business being in this forum.

My ebay feedback speaks for itself.

I didn't see anything too out-of-line with that auction.

I was one of those broke Mercedes owners who bought a car with flex discs that were ready to come apart. I could not afford $100 for new flex discs for my 300SD so I bought some used ones from a forum member. They were a bit aged, but were only $15, and they got me by for a while.

True, it's a lot of work to install them, but some people (like me) have more time than money, and the 300SD is currently only a project car to work on while I drive my 200D.

I think the price of the flex discs in the auction are a bit high since they are used, but if they're selling at that price then might as well keep it where it's at.
