I am wondering if the 190D ever came with a 5-speed manual transmission AND the turbodiesel engine. I tried to find out from Mercedes...but ended up playing phone tag for a ridiculus amount of time.

If anyone does know if they were made, any idea how many were for the U.S. market? How about for Europe? Is it a big deal to import a grey market car that is post-1987?

not here in the USA. Someone correct me if I am wrong. 1987 was the only year for TD and they were autos.

You are correct. There were about 1500 190D turbo's only in 1987 and only in auto. They were made in europe til 1993 (although the 2.5 did change slightly). I do not believe that these were ever offered in a five speed. I have looked quite a bit in europe and every one that I saw listed in classified ads or on the street was also an auto.

Jobah, Thats cool that you really know your car as well as you do! How does one of those 2.2 run? I have never driven one. I considered finding one for hiway travel. I am curious about cruising speeds and rpm for hiway jaunts. If you do not mind what are some of the traits of these things?
