123 manual transmission FSM files??
Haynes gives a good manual transmission dismantle assemble proceedure for earlyier style manual transmission, the one with "bolt on" bell housing.
Can anyone provide or direct me to a step by step proceedure for dismantle re asssembly of the later 716.2 4 speed manual with integral bell housing? The shafts and gears will be the same but the case and preceedure is different .... there is no side cover on the later tranny ..... thanks in advance |

I had one on CD but I can't for the life of me find where I left it. I know I still have it somewhere.
Most of the gears are removed by removing the tail shaft

The Haynes manual for the 190E has an excellent R&R and step by step procedure with plenty of pictures. I bet the 4 and 5 spd are close in they way they disassemble. I think the 5 spd has an extra piece on the rear for the 5th gear.
The manual covers 84 thru 88 for the gas models. book# 1643 I have looked all over also for a 4 spd R&R manual. Charlie

Now that is a great tip. I strongly suspect the tranny is the same except for the starter bump on the left, with the diesel its on the right.

The R and R, remove and renstall is easy. What I want is the dismantle and reassemble.... to replace a worn syncro in the tranny already installed in my 300TD

Yeah metric Motors knows what they are doing, been doing it long enough. I have been there twice. the place is really packed with parts. I have a picture of Mike working on an old Gasser engine. I think there is only like 3 guys that work there.
Last time I was there, they had several engines crated up to send out. I don`t know if this will help in any way, the pic use to be up, now have to down load ea one. probably to save band width. this is Dropnosky`s 4 spd 5 spd Slice N Dice N Weld project to have a 5-spd in a 123. some good pictures of dismantling and reassembling the 5 spd. don`t remember if there is any 4-spd pictures. http://www.superturbodiesel.com/std/how-adapt-w201-speed-om616-om617-applications-t-965.html Charlie
