Glow plug relay part number help needed

Hi guys and gals,

Was hoping someone could give me some assistance. I need a glow plug relay for a 1981 240D and have a lead on one. The problem is the car is 100 miles away and I don't have a Bosch part number and don't remember what it looks like. Does somebody have the Bosch part number handy or a picture of the correct relay? 1982 and 1983 should also have the same relay. Thanks in advance.

Click on buy parts above and you'll see a picture of a glow plug relay in the engine electrical section.

Hey Army,

I did check that before I posted but frankly I just don't trust photos on online parts catalogs. Sometimes representative photos are used that don't actually match the part. The Mercedes EPC even does that for this particular part (I'm positive the one shown in the EPC does not match the actual part). Plus this site does not give a Bosch part number.

this is close to what mine looks like. it will have a plastic cover over the electrical connectors.

^ Agreed, it should look like that.

If your deal falls through, I have a new unit.

Shouldn't the 240D relay have 4 terminal glow plug connector instead of 5 as in the pic?

I have a 5 plug relay in my 240D, it works correctly (including the light). I believe the post-glow kits are universal for both 4 and 5 cylinder engines.

For the post glow relay that may be true. I was referring to an OE relay.

Actually, I have a OEM type relay with 5 plugs in the 240D (and a post glow in the 300D). I ended up putting the 5 plug in the 240D because it was what my indy had in stock at the moment and I didn't want to wait for the "correct" part. We gave it a try and it worked fine so I kept it, YMMV.

i do not doubt a 300D glow relay will work in a 240D since they use the same connector. I was just questioning wether an OE 240D has 4 or 5 terminals on the glow plug connector. I have one from my 240D which I believe is original. I will take a look.

The original only has 4 plugs, I noticed that when I replaced mine.

A quick internet search gave me the following numbers:-

1235401545 "For California models with chassis serial number from 149279 through 208266. For Federal (non-California) models with chassis serial number from 149292 through 208266"

0015459732 "For models with chassis serial number from 208268"

Both numbers are meant to be good for the 240D and the 300D...

I'll check tomorrow in the light if either of these numbers match with my euro 300D
