240d auto keeps rolling when in Park???

Here recently my car has continued to roll after I have put it in Park. Each time this happened the car was on dry, flat payment. The other day when I got out to get fuel the car started rolling and I had to jump back in and press the brake...thought I had missed Park, but sure enough it was in. Anyone else ever experience this problem???

I'd look at the shift linkage bushings. It sounds like the gear selector on the trans isn't actually getting put into Park. If you climb under the car and look on the passenger side of the transmission you will find the shifter linkage. On either end is a bushing(grommet some might call it). If either looks cracked or broken I'd replace them.

X2, the parking brake is there for a reason. use the brake first, the shift the trans into Park.

Iam amazed at how many people shove the lever into "Park" and not use the brake. you can always tell, the car is rocking back and forth after the get out of the car. I have seen several cars in a parking lot that rolled out of their space. good way to injure some one, or .........???

as said above, check your shifter bushings. could be the Gizmo in the trans that holds it into "Park" is worn and doesn`t hold.

I HAVE FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE WITH FORDS JUMPING OUT OF PARK. My first car was a 1969 Ford Fairlane....It was the middle of winter so I went out and started the car to let it warm up and went back inside. A few minutes later I heard a big CRASH and instantly I knew what had happened...the car had jumped out of park and ran into the back steps of the house!!! Luckily it didn't do any damage...but if had missed the steps it would have went right through the back of the neighbor's house...

I have never used the park brake in a car with an automatic transmission when parking on level ground...if the car keeps moving after the transmission is put in park there is problem...however, I will probably start utilizing the parking brake until I figure out the problem.

LOL, me too ! I had a 1964 'slab sided ' Lincoln Continental in 1975.. in my driveway I turned it on and went back inside to get something I had forgotten... I thought I heard something outside...it had jumped out of Park and gone down the driveway backwards and hit one of the central AC units for a church across the street... DEMOLISHED it.. did no damage to the car....
