Exclamation I need to free up some capitol... which MB to sell?

OK.
I have an 84 240D 5 speed...
I have an 84 300D 4 speed...
I have an 87 300D nothing special
I have an 83 300TD nothing special

oh yeah... I have an 84D that needs to be assembled. it's got a 4 speed partially installed... needs pedals and shifter installed. and a driveshaft cut to fit...

the two manuals have rust in minor locations. both have euro cloth seats.
the 87 is white with palo/pinkamino seats No rust
the wagon is Ivory with palamino seats. NO rust.
the closest to salable condition is the 87. it only needs a power steering hose to be ready to sell
the two euro's are substantially in need of completion. the 5speed needs a motor, the 4speed needs windows... all of them just about. ugh.

I want to keep them all. I really don't want to sell. I guess I don't REALLY need to sell one, but I hate not knowing if I'll make that next payment. having liquid assets in the bank will really help my peace of mind.

I don't think I'll get enough from the 87 to really affect my balance sheet. what 2-4K yes?
the 5 speed is likely the most sought after vehicle I have. but to sell it as anything but a source of the manual would require swapping in the other motor I have... hmmmm.
the 4 speed needing all those windows makes it a really difficult sell. especially since ya can't really change the front or back window below 50F temps... I could put it in the heated paint booth, but I don't know how long it would take to bring it up to temp, or if the paint shop has the time to let me do it.
the wagon needs a full on front end rebuild. needs pretty much everything to be highway drivable. that's dollars too...
arrrgh...

what do you all think?
I'll put up a poll later after I get some imput on the things I could sell...

no. the 87 TD's are not going on the list!

The 87 would probably be the best to flip... it's worth the most, right? Plus being a newer car with SRS and ABS I think it would appeal to more people.

If you want to raise 2-4k and need it quickly I don't see one or two of those covering it.

Tyler and I are on the same page. You're not really sitting on a goldmine. The packet of 4 may be worth the money. These cars just aren't worth a lot.

The 87 300Ds are to special. Sell that one. Then sell a couple together as a project package. That 5 speed 240D sounds awesome. I bet it would get over 30 mpg. Or If you have an engine i'd drop it in and sell that one too. Remember, there will always be another great 500.00 steal. Get rid of the junk.

i've resolved to fix my two, or wait three, and my wifes , four cars good before i get any more. Its really like just having one daily driver. I can bond with it. Always find my ipod charger. Keep it clean. Love it and care for it a lot easier and in turn, it takes care of me. Problem is its hard to pick one. If i had to it'd be the 87TD for sure. I'm now attached to the trunk space.

Honestly you could probably get $1k quickly for a 5-speed kit for the 61x series diesel. There are always people looking for those. Beyond that I'd sell the 87. You can find another one if yo decide later on that you want one again.

without knowing anything about the condition of the vehicles, the '83 300TD would be my vote. i say this because all else being equal a wagon is always going to sell for about double the sedan price. the '83 wagon will probably sell for more than any of the others in the list, even the '87. unless it's a bucket.

'87 300D is second vote, it's got the most resale value, but if it were me i'd be holding onto that one more than the others, because i have an '87 300TD.

I really want the 4 speed. I have all of the windows sitting in my parts car. However, I need to get moved first (SWMBO said so). This sucks.

this is how I am leaning too...
I have no buckets.
however the wagon needs a front end once over. wheel bearing, tires, maybe UCA's and I gotta swap in the fender, and the headlight doors...
but it's rust free, dry, and everything works more or less.

heh, when I just now logged in to check in, I saw the spelling... duh. And since I left Tehran, in 79, it would be SOOOOO cool to free the place. I miss it.

the cool thing is, that I, being a moderator can go correct the spelling... but I'm thinking of just leaving it for humor.

Still sounding like I'm not going to get a cheap '87 300TD. Damn.

Anything that you sell needing work, will likely go cheap. Unless of course some one really likes the car such as someone on this forum, ... and people on this forum seldom pay too much.
