block heater ? from total newbie

I just acquired a 84 300td w/89,000 miles and am totally new to diesel powered autos. The car came w/o an owner's manual. After plugging in the block heater, is there anything else I must do (flip a switch, time limit, etc.)?

Yes, TXBill, my 300TD is a wagon. Thanx for your warm welcome and help. I'm really grateful for your diesel discussion forum. Keep up the good work and happy 2002!

After the car has been plugged in for awhile, you'll hear the block heater if you listen carefully near the grill. That is the way I tell if my circuit is still holding as I have all 3 plugged into the same outlet. The timer is a great idea. I got one this year for $9 and it turns on at 3 a.m.

NJbenny, as TXBill said, welcome and also as John (turbodiesel) mentioned there is a get together in North Central NJ. Look for the details on the thread entitled "Diesel meet". I am also a TD owner, mine is an '83 with 183,000 miles. BTW these wagons cost about $35,000 new. I have the invoice for mine and it cost $34,612 in March of '83.
