vacuum pump rebuild question 79 300sd

ive searched archives about rebuilding my pump, but didnt see my specific model.my pump has one large main line at pump to brake booster with a plastic clear line feeding all the doors ,cruise ,shutoff etc.is this pump different than most and is it rebuildable in car without taking out radiator?what about removal whats involved ?

Mine's like that too. I have a vague recollection of a thread on that pump from a few years ago. My impression from that thread was that it was rebuildable in situ but it's been a while.
Did some searching but couldn't find the thread I had in mind. I'm wondering if 2 rebuild kits from the early single diaphragm model could be used to rebuild the double diaphragm model? If so, I know the single diaphragm model is rebuildable in situ but that diaphragm faces forward. The SD double diaphragm model faces up and down but I don't see who the two diaphragms couldn't be removed with the pump itself in place. Might be a little difficult to remove the cover over the bottom diaphragm.

Not sure. Radiator does not need to come out to remove pump or cover on a 617 in a 77 123 model.

rebuild kit according to phil is 275$,new pump from mercedes is 1500$,other option according to sun valley dismantlers isto use an 82 vac pump and they modify cover plate for injection pump timing gear? something like that ,that costs 125.i love this car and will probably go with used as old pimp still uses piston new one diaphragm.

Do you think it could be rebuilt in place?

no this particular pump has 2 diphragms, top and bottom and the bottom one is not accessible unless you take it out of car.i think they made this pump only for a few years.rebuild kits are expensive-all the info is on http://www.w116.org/ website-they have manual on line with info on rebuildng and removal of pump.there are no aftermarket pumps avaialbel that i can find, but used ones are available.-

rosenfe, I looked on the 116 website and didn't find the part about the vacuum pump. Can you help a brother out? Thanks!

go to library follow steps to 300sd then go to chassis and body ,it first will go to brake booster, hit more arrow and you will see vacuum pump info.also on their forum under mechanicals you should see my post about vac pump, and the response from a member guiding me through their library.

good luck
