got this horrible vibration>>> 603 sdl

So i have this wierd obnoxious whining/rumbling/vibrating noise on the front of my SDL... when the engine is running the fan is not (or barely moving) could this noise be something with the fan clutch?... noise goes away when on the throttle and lessons when idleing once engine is warm/hot.

i usually run around 80-90c and occasionaly hotter when in traffic in the summer. t-stat is 2 months old

I'm also having a shifter issue, no longer starts in park, so i hold key to start with foot on brake while running shifter thru shift gate and a few jiggles around neutral and it fires up.

i ordered new shifter bushings and when i went to install them it appears mine are fine... im guessing from what ive read hear and in other threads its the NSS... good news, NAPA sells it for $20 but its not available and sold out nationwide fastlane has it for $71 and my local dealership for $116...

The fan clutch seems like a possibility. Will the fan wiggle back and forth front to back? Does it have some resistance when you turn it with the motor turned off?

I am sure you can find a NSS at a junkyard for $3. The clutch is certainly a likely culprit. They can fail internally and wobble for isntance. Fix it before it hits your radiator!

you mean the belt driven fan does NOT turn with the motor? at all? it's gotta be hitting something. even if it had PERFECT frictionless bearings *(an impossibility) the fan would still spin somewhat with the motor... it's gotta be hitting something, and yeah, that would play havoc with the fan clutch, and belt tensioner...

Look at your engine mounts especially the driver side.

noise

rs,my experience with that noise is a loose shock on the belt tensioner system. a good way to check is to take a hammer handle ,hold the metal part and place the handle with a little pressure on the top part of the shock,if you can change the noise with a little pressure then the bearing has play and is causing the noise.most time it will go completely away with down pressure.
