How many starters do i have??

I have a 1991 300 D 2.5 Turbo Diesel w124 om602 Vehicle that i am trying to put a remote starter on, an Astra 4000RS unit. I have followed all the steps to the T however the car will crank but it wont start; in other words i will hear the starter goo rrrrrrrrr but not the engine turning on.

If i put the car's key in and turn it the regular way on, it turns on faster than my gasoline 2011 Range Rover. I have taught the car's tach sequence to the unit selected the diesel mode, done all the connections right with one exception i couldn't do it right at the key ignition harness because that is tough to take out but further down the line, simpler... i didnt use the accessory line form the harness that is a pink and red wire i just used another acc wire that goes 12v when you turn the key the rest is where it need to be. But still no sweet diesel engine running?/
my question is??
How many starters does my car have?? why is the remote start unit talking about starter 1 starter 2 even a starter 3 although the installation instructions for the 1991 300D MB only says it has only one starter!!!!???
Is there an easy way to take the ignition harness out of the key unit if not whats the procedure i am trying to research it but no hits so far.
thank you any help will be appreciated
Denis

I know nothing about your situation..
but from the sounds you made...
LOL
I suspect you have energized the starter itself..
but not the thing that pulls it into the cogs of the flywheel... the bendix ... ( or so it was called in the old days )...

i believe your car has a vacuum shutoff which is why you aren't able to remote start.

I believe your engine shutoff is vacuum controlled so Unless you've installed some sort of vacuum bleed valve I don't see how this could work

leathermang 01-26-2011 10:09 PM

Why would it allow a ' grrrrr ' to happen ?

kerry 01-26-2011 10:12 PM

Because the two terminal which energize 'grrring' are connected.
How does a remote start system bleed off vacuum to the shut off valve without turning the key?

ascalise 01-26-2011 10:17 PM

it doesn't.

Now that I think about it a vacuum based remote start would have to be pretty fancy... some sort of vacuum solenoid spliced into the shutoff line, that also reacts to the key being cycled on and off so it ends up shutting down properly.

wOw that is a pretty good response (7 in 33 minutes) but not what i wanted to hear :( grrrr lol Why do those m..f..s than sell the system and say it works they have the wiring explanations for 300D and 300E 1991 MB and they both have vacuum systems. I called them 3 times today they are in California and they said they installed something like this on another MB an SL i think (dont know what year) and it said it was very difficult to remove the wiring harness. I have 2 spare door vacuum control valves do you think i can rig something up for that with those and a couple of relays??? i know a long shot but i am all about inventions hahha
god this is been a pain in the neck
keep the comments coming

there is no way to make it work..

You`re just going to have to tough it out, and go out side and physically start the engine. :D you know, this is a DIY forum

I have two MB diesels with remote start on them. it's doable, but you have to have the vacuum relay, and it's gotta be supported by the RS box.
also it has to have timing for the glow plug circuit.

ascalise 01-27-2011 12:00 AM

which systems do you have? and what relay are you referring to? you got me curious now.

vstech 01-27-2011 12:16 AM

mwuhahaha...

I don't know.
I'll get the specs for you guys, but any knowledgeable remote installation tech should be able to do it.

i beg to differ. but i guess it all depends on where you live.
