Brought home another diesel !!

Well I did it again. I found a 86 300SDL light green (I'm sure there's a proper name) in color.
I went to look at it took a fellow forum member with me to hopefully talk some sense into me but.....
low and behold found myself 2 hours later driving it home. I think he was enjoying it more than I was.
I appreciated the help Mitch .

The funny thing was the more we found wrong the more I wanted the thing.
I guess sort of in the way you see a wounded animal and think you can help it.

What is it with these diesels is it like they say with drugs.
You start off with a 240D the gateway one then work up to the heavy stuff 350SDL'S .
What comes next a twelve cylinder Gasser ?

The wife is right there behind me she loves her 300SD.
This one was bought for my son he drove it and for the past two days has been giving me every fact he can find on it.
The whole family is hooked!!

There's gotta be some kind of rehab or twelve step program??
Please say there is I'm running out of money and yard space!!

Here's the best pic I have of it.

Good for you . too many cars isn`t the problem, you just need more land. Buy out the neighbors, Bulldoze down their houses, expand,

We need to create the SPCMB, the Society for the Prevention to Cruelty to old Mercedes Benz.

Well, now that you've seen what that 603 inline six can do in an SDL, imagine what it can do in an 87 300D that's a few hundred pounds lighter....

They don't call them "rocket ships" for nothing.

Riding shotgun back to SA in that beast got me jonesing for my 87. When I get it down here, we'll have to go out and see if it'll still hit that advertised 125 mph top end.

Thanks for the laughs guys.

My time with a 603 was short lived though. I found out my so called lifter knocking was coming from a little deeper in the block.

This was apparent at 70mph when I seen a cloud of smoke behind me then what sounded like a cannon going off.
The finale was when 5000lbs of car tried to jump up as if it hit a speed bump.
It tossed a large piece of something out the rear while I was grabbing for shifter keys crucifix.......a lot goes through your mind in a situation like that not to mention what your stomach is trying to do with the other end!!

When I finally got it pulled over and stopped shaking enough to pull the hood latch I found it made itself a new oil drain.
I guess #3 and #4 piston got into an argument and one decided to leave.
Exited Right in front of the starter out the side of the block.

I was passing a gas station and thinking damn fuel is going up....Then I started thinking about WVO............

That couldn't have caused it right??

Damn, that just effin' sucks.

Granted I'm no expert, but I think that's the first time I've heard of a 603 3.0 letting go like that. I've always heard it was the later 3.5's that were supposed to be rod benders.

Here's a few I took with my phone while waiting on the wife to come with the pickup.

On a side note I took the bumper off to bolt on the tow bar its not related to the carnage.

I was to disgusted to snap any more. I will once I pull the motor.
I'm kind of curious about the big chunk that bounced out behind the car.

These are G rated more to follow.
