What's a scrap body worth?
Well, Brown Betty has reached the end of the road.
Nearly everything is pulled. I just have the front suspension (need to find the correct style of compressor to remove the springs today) and the A/C unit. Anything that can be unbolted from the body has been. I think I might take some cool dry ice fog pics with it tonight. ;) Anyhow, local auto scrapper will give me $100 and free pickup tomorrow. Any chance this is worth more? Anyone need a rust free wagon body with RR damage for body parts? Fenders and doors are gone. -Andrew |
14 cents per pound.

I got $75 for my wrecked 300d body and had to haul it myself. I'd say take the $100, especially if they pick it up!
|
when you say "everything that can be unbolted from the body has been" did you get the suspension? the rear control arms? the SLS system? drive shaft? diff? subframe?
when I take a destroyed MB to the scrapper, there is NOTHING left of the car to use. it's literally a body cage. all glass, interior panels, screws, lines EVERYTHING is removed from the car and stored or sold. |
I just had a two door tercel brought in and it was gutted, and it brought 200ish. along with a little scrap I had sitting around.

scrap metal is getting $190 per ton here in southeast Missouri (at the scrap metal yard in our small town of Park Hills), my brother told me the other day. I was really surprised, because I had seen a sign at the place saying $160 per ton just about a week before that.

280/ton here... I got over 550 for a 78 pickup with no drivetrain in it... about 2 tons..

I'm trying to get the front suspension out right now, but just realized without an engine, I don't have much weight to hold the car down while I jack up the LCA... CRAP! |
Local scrap yard just told me $150/ton... And I'd have to bring it in (NO). So I'm thinking $100 with pickup is nice.

I donated an intact POS jeep (redundant, I know) last year and ended up with a $500+ tax deduction based on what it was sold for. I assume it went for scrap.

Friend said he got almost like 450.00 at pull a part for mostly stripped 87 SDL . I"m thinking i need to strip my wagon sooner than later now. When i took an 81 300CD without engine to pull a part about 5 years ago i got 75.00

speaking of scrapping W123 cars, I am about to get an estimate for replacing the floors on a 250 lang (the factory stretch car). In theory the area around the rear end is bad.
Getting the lower rear end of a car that isn't riddled with rust is now on the list of things to do. Anybody got a donor that they're removing the rear wheels on? As for the price of steel, it jumped here in NY between New Year's and MLK day. I scrapped my old beat up suburban and got 13.5 cents per pound for it. The yard came out and double checked the truck because they thought I filled it with cement given the weight. There was a spare benz rear end, a washing machine, crumped hood and a few other things filling the back. Thx -CTH |
I scrapped out a 90's bonniville, took everything... left the doors, but litterally everything else was removed... including the drive train gas tank, suspention even the dash and the entire wire harness... about as stripped as you could get... got 100 bucks for it.
