Are The diesels Wiring harness like the gassers?

There is a 93 300D for sale which seems interesting. Question is do the diesel cars have the same wiring harness issues like the gas models? Anything else to watch out for in a 93 300D 2.5 Turbo? Thanks

Yes but they dont rely on electrics for engine management quites as much. Head gaskets. Vacuum Pumps. Certain models had issues with timing chains.

All models from those years (late 80s to mid 90s) have the same issues with the "environmentally-friendly" insulation that dries and cracks over the years. The flaws of the early OM603 head design were fixed by the time the OM602 engine was introduced. It has an aluminum head and subject to the same problems if you overheat it. It is almost as fast as the 603 and gets better fuel economy. Look for a good set of service records, the more the better. Have the rear suspension checked by a good mechanic, look at the engine mounts, make sure the climate control and sunroof work.

I was actually searching on Edmunds and foun this review:

I am the orig. owner of a 93 300D with 72Km.Other owners have had timing chain failures. One had the chain fail in Aug 96,requiring a new engine ($13,000)at that time. MBNA had released in Nov 96, MBNA 05/095, Revised timing chain with a new center link plate. I just had the orig. timing chain replaced, along with the chain tensioner (3 service bull. on this item),cam gear, chain rails, and vac. pump.MBNA has refused to inform other owners to give them the option to replace these defective parts.

The 602 was introduced with the 603 in the mid '80s, and did have the same flaws and updates into the '90s http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=289965

Do check on the timing chain, and the wire harness. There are a couple of sensors that will not allow boost if they or the wires to them fail, plus other general sensors, not nearly as critical nor as hard to repair as the gas versions of wire harness in '93.

Suspension parts, A/C components, the usual '90s Mercedes issues. Look for the buyer's guide in the DIY section.
