Timing Chain "Buzz"
Timing gave a "Buzz" at startup this morning. I changed the oil the other day using Delvac 15/40. Is the oil too thick for conditions? Temp at startup this morning was mid 30's and I did not use the block heater.

This oil is definitely not too heavy for these conditions. The truckers use this oil from Alaska to Mexico City. I can't comment on your noise because I didn't hear it.

I have a noise that I get on cold startup with the '87 300D that lasts for maybe 30 seconds that is kinda like a buzz. I'm not at all sure what it is - the timing chain came to mind - as did the power steering pump, the alternator, and just about anything else under the hood.
So until it becomes a "CRRRAAAAAAAAAACKKKKK" I'm just driving. Oh, I also think there's nothing wrong with that oil at that temperature range - even colder should be OK. Ken300D |
