As for being obsessive, I'm obsessive in everything I do. It's a matter of personality and sometimes obsessive-compulsion. I have a lifelong history of getting extremely deep into whatever it is I have an interest in. The car has been a steady obsession for me and probably the most positive. It's taught me a lot about my capabilities and has also introduced me to others who have a similar obsessive personality with regard to cars.
I don't know your girlfriend, but maybe it would help if you found out her obsessions (most people have them) and try to find out more about them ... maybe if you encourage hers, she'll be more open to yours. Honestly I don't think I would be compatible with someone who wasn't obsessive, about something. Wouldn't have to be the same things as me ... in fact that might be volatile. But I need someone who understands why I need to be in my garage tinkering with a parking brake when it's 15 degrees out and well past dinnertime, or why I fly to England to see a rock band.

The most MBs I've had at one time is 6 though. With the dealership now things don't really count.

Vstech, what's your shoe size?

My wife knows that I dream cars, parts, tools and repair procedures.

I talk in my sleep, she gets annoyed when I argue technical issues.

She never worries about loosing me to another woman, just the ooh shiny tool, etc, etc, for a while..

... ok, I'm sure you have me on running cars! I can probably muster 6 running ones... maybe 7

Shoe size? it depends on the brand, but somewhere in the 12 range...

worst thing is being unable to find a pair of mechanix gloves that fit... xxl is tight.

Just remember to keep your priorities straight, a good diesel is hard to find, and not easily replaced. Girlfriends are pretty easy to find.........

With that many cars I have no clue where you have enough time to slap your neck.

To the OP. All women hate it men have something more important than them in their lives, no matter how temporary it may be. They hate it even more when it is an inanimate object. They cannot scowl, berate, nag, up one it or even seduce it. The good women will realize this and let the boy go play with his toy. They may scowl, berate, nag or seduce their man away still but they will let him play. Personally I can't work out of the house anymore. My wife will come out an infuriating 2-3 times towards the end of a long day and ask me if its done yet. I love her, shes a good woman but GOD does that get under my skin.

Oh come on. I know I'm the girl crashing the boys' tree house here so I'm not trying to spoil the commiseration, but ALL women are not like that. I, as well as most of my female friends, would much prefer to date a man with his own life and interest. I wouldn't be able to tolerate a man who wanted nothing but to follow me around, wait on me hand and foot and obsess over everything I do all the time. I realize I'm in the minority as a woman with a car-repair interest, but most women have their own things, whether it's the stereotypical make-up and shoes or art or horses.

I try to interest the girls in one or more of my hobbies. Car maintenance is the last one on the list for me. Cooking, recipes and grocery marketing, housekeeping, happy hours, pets, home improvements, working out, travelling, come before the car deal with me.

Exactly ... most women would find something on that list to share with you. As long as you really click somewhere, I think most women are willing to let you have your time in the garage.
