1983 240D rear defog timer adjustment possible?

I installed an auxiliary electric fuel pump and powered it from the rear defog sytem. Any ideas on how to increase the time duration or to set it to not time out? I can tell it's going to be a slight hassle to keep turning it on after time out or to cycle the switch prior to time out.
