Question Fuel Lines?

Giving this 1987 300SDL the once over and I've noticed that the fuel lines from the fuel pump to the spin-on filter , then from the spin-on filter to the injection pump are of a clear (but stained tan/brown) see-thru type, Polyethelene? Is this normal? I can appreciate the value of actually being able to visually verify the movment of fuel in the system, but I've never seen anything but black neoprene hose in any fuel system gas or diesel before. Any thoughts? These particular pieces of hose are press fit onto male hose bib connections without any type of clamping device! I can't imagine this situation is normal! Any thoughts, opinions and any specific knowledge as to the original setup would be appreciated. Unless someone convinces me otherwise I plan to change the hoses and add a mechanical clamp to secure each connection tomorrow. But I'm open to learn that betterminds than mine may have devined a purpose that I have yet to comprehend. Thanks to all for any and everthing.

My 79 300SD has similar hoses, and so do many others I've seen, so yours is probably correct. I don't know why either, but I'm sure one of our resident diesel geniuses will chime in soon.
