Glove Box Repair

Anyone used Kent Bergsma's Mercedes Source repair kit to fix the notorious glove box latch on a w123 model? Any other ideas how to fix this problem?

You can replace the entire plastic backing on the door.

I never used the kit. But after dissambly and inspection I figured out what to fabricate and using
basic hand tools in the garage repaired the latch to make it work well.

So well, that when I had a replacement available I decided to keep my
modified version.

It has been more than 15 years so all memories of what I did are gone. Sorry.

same here, took it apart, looked at what was broken and fixed it using a sewing needle and a piece of plastic I had lying around.

yeah, that's a fine repair option...
I went one better...
find a pre 82 123 and steal their latch... it's metal.

I used to be able to drive my truck loaded with tools into the yard. Buckets of bolts & misc parts could be had for $10 each. Now tools have to be carried and the yard operator thinks misc parts are worth more than the salvage weight. It is a sorry state of affairs.

Just a word to the wise. I tried to bend my metal latch to help with door alignment when I first got my car. It broke. The metal latch is cast metal and is not flexible.

The dealer got me the new part. Wasn't too expensive.

+1. The black backing plate costs $15 last I checked (a couple of years ago). Those black plates are all broken in some way or another, best to just replace imo.
