1982 Center Wood Trim Piece

So, I finally saw one in much better condition than mine show up on ebay. It even comes with the switches. I won the auction and am now waiting for it to arrive. Like many of these, the pin on the back is broken off.... I have heard of folks replacing it with a wood dowel. Not sure that I know how to do that. I could probably figure out the size and cut it to length, but how would you attach it? Superglue? Anyone here have any tips on how to repair that broken, (and missing), plastic pin? Of course I could install it without the pin and it would be no worse than my current panel that is also broken and very badly cracked. At least the one I have coming is not chipped yet....

drill it out and relace with a 1/4" hitch pin or even a bolt. Since the fastener is near the lower edge and you probably have suff in the tray anyway, it wouldn't be too obtrusive. This arrangement could be withdrawn if in the future you want to pull that trim out.

In almost all instances, the dowel is broken when people try to lift up the rear of the trim withould pulling backward first.

In my case, I have one of those console boxes in the tray so an external pin kluge would be invisible anyway.

I think someone is repopping the plastic pin and then you can just glue or staple on the inside as it is designed. If I find a link to it I will post it

Mine was also broken. Repair was simple and staightforward. I used 1/4" nylon sheet piece shaved down to the approximate size and epoxied it in place.

A pin like this is NOT a place for superglue. Superglue works best with 2 very, very flat surfaces.
