how much oil in freon for 240

For a 77 240 with the york compressor, I have not found how much oil goes in the freon. I did find the info for a dipstick to check the compressor, but I believe that oil is also in the freon, but can not find how much. This would be a fresh fill after flushing, and evacuation.

I don't think it's needed on the york compressor systems. the compressor with a sump is not finicky about lubricated components.
set the oil level correctly in the compressor, then use it. after a few days of operation, recheck the level. it'll level off when everything has equalized.

The 300D/CD/TD FSM says 180 min, 240 norm, 300 max for the York. Units are cc. Corresponds to 22, 25, 28 mm on the dipstick.

Starting from scratch I'd say put in about 200 cc, then evaluate. Some will be mixed into the freon.

Make sure you select the correct oil for the type of refrigerant. Strong opinions on refrigerant here.

unfortunately mine does not have service valves on it, so checking the oil after running a few days means evecuating it. Anyone have a spare set of service valves?

Please send pictures of your York compressor.... all sides you can reach with camera...
In the usual way the nomenclature is used ... I think the oil checks are made through the side of the compressor.. and it can be mounted in at least two modes... upright and sideways... so there should be one on at least two sides.. pictures will clear this up...
