I would assume that this thing should at least rise above 900 rpms even with a dead hole. I think this is a very neglected 617. While I am at it, timing chain stretch will be checked. If all else shows low, I'll locate a 617 and yank it.
No hole that I can tell. It start up right away, and well, you can hear it run... I've been driving the crap out of it. I've ran at at least 7 tanks of fuel though her so far. I'll be driving it a lot more now that the front suspensions replaced and I can do 70 without shaking all over the place

I'm going to learn how to do my first valve adjustment on it, then do the same on the 85. I just need to find a reasonable place to get the needed wrenches. Going to also pour about a cup of MO in each cylinder and let it sit for a week, see if that help my blow by issue any.

Im the opposite. My 82 uses no oil between changes, and the blowby is so low that I can set the cap on the hole and it won't even bobble around... Yet Im dripping oil out of my turbo from it.

My 82 is just like that.

It has a cylinder at 220 and another at 240.

It runs great - ABOVE about 40-45 degrees

Bet you you can't start that car below freezing without the block heated.

Nope. block heater is my friend. Good thing below zero is a rarity in GA.

I cracked the injector lines open to at least identify the dead cylinder. #3 is the culprit. If I plug the breather, oil pours out of the dipstick tube. So, now I am actively seeking a transplant.its official, WTB 617. So my question is whether or not a block other than a 617.951 can be used, i.e. one from a 300D and year model changes, etc to go in a W126.
